  35 hotels across the region
Many of the planned hotel openings in the Gulf region over the next two years will be in the UAE, creating thousands of new hotel rooms. The UAE will see the completion of 22 hotels this year and 13 next year according to a survey by research and database company Preloads for The Hotel Show. According to the Proleads survey, five big hotels will be completed this year in Saudi Arabia, followed by seven more in 2010. Qatar will see five new hotels this year and two in 2010, while Bahrain will have one new hotel in 2009 and four in 2010.


Ruby Tuesday to open 25 restaurants
Ruby Tuesday announced plans for the development of 25 restaurants in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Jordan and the UAE. The restaurants will be developed and operated by the National Arabic Co. for Restaurant Management of Kuwait City (NAC) and will open over the next seven years. Ruby Tuesday has been expanding its franchise presence in the Middle East for the past six years.

Wendy’s/Arby’s to open in Middle East
Wendy’s/Arby’s group signs major development agreement for the Middle East and plans to open 135 restaurants in nine countries over the next 10 years. A subsidiary of Al Jammaz Group, Specialized Catering Services Est., with regional offices in Dubai is scheduled to open in the first of these restaurants in Saudi Arabia by early 2010. There are currently two Arby’s restaurants in the region, located in Dubai and Qatar. These restaurants are not part of the announced agreement with Al Jammaz.

Swiss-Belhotel will open in the Middle East
Swiss-Belhotel international have closed deal for projects in Sharjah for resorts development, Dubai and Doha for city hotels due to open soon and a new officially partnered for a project in Dead Sea, Jordan. Other properties acquired are Swiss-Belhotel Resort Masirah Island in Oman and Swiss-Belhotel Sana’a in Yemen.

Schedule to open in 2010, the Conrad Dubai will be located in the heart of Dubai’s commercial, business and entertainment district. It will house 550 luxury guest and executive floor rooms and suites, as well as 30 meeting rooms, a fully equipped business center, two ballrooms, three innovative restaurants and bars, a spa and health club with an outdoor swimming pool.

Mandarin Oriental to open in Abu Dhabi
The Saadiyat Island property being developed by Abu Dhabi-based Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), is scheduled to open in 2013. Mandarin Oriental Abu Dhabi will feature 160 luxurious guestrooms and suites, as well as 35 serviced apartments and 50 branded residences. The hotel will boast six restaurants and bars, as well as meeting and banqueting rooms. Leisure facilities include a private beach club, a comprehensive fitness center and a large outdoor swimming pool.

Jal Tower Dubai establishes pre-opening office
Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2010, the 5-star deluxe Hotel JAL Tower Dubai will be situated on the Sheikh Zayed Road opposite the Dubai World Trade Center and Dubai International Convention Center, with easy access to the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC). Hotel JAL Tower Dubai will boast 471 rooms and suites, a business center, meeting room facilities, health club and spa, as well as seven F&B outlets.

Etihad Towers in Jumeirah
Jumeirah Etihad Towers will feature several towers including a hotel, an office building and serviced residences as well a commercial and retail space. The 60-storey luxury hotel tower will comprise 400 guest rooms and suites as well as 200 fully serviced apartments. The development will include a high-end shopping boulevard, extensive conference and banqueting facilities, a spa as well as sport and recreation facilities. Located on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, the hotel will also have its own private beach.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in Al-Ain
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts signed a management contract for first-class 230 rooms, suites and a villa city resort in the heart of Al Ain with the owning company Sourouh Real Estate PJSC. The resort will also boast a wide range of sports and leisure facilities, including a spa and health club, as well as outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts.

Regent hotel for Abu Dhabi
The 365-room Regent Emirates Pearl Abu Dhabi will feature have 70 tastefully furnished apartments. The banquet and meeting facilities will comprise a multi purpose ballroom, six boardrooms, two conference rooms, six restaurants, two lounges, four bars and a rooftop deck.

EIH Limited announced plans to build three new hotels in Abu Dhabi and Oman. A 252-room Oberoi Hotel located at Business Bay Dubai, two further Oberoi hotels in Abu Dhabi and another hotel in Oman.

Sofitel new hotels across ME
Sofitel Dubai Sheikh Zayed Road boasts 435 guestrooms and suites, 147 apartments with services and various facilities including restaurants, bars, a fitness club and large sauna, two pools, a ballroom and several meeting rooms.
Sofitel Abu Dhabi Capital Plaza will feature 233 guestrooms and 47 suites, a fitness club and sauna, a pool, restaurants, bars, several meeting rooms and an executive lounge on the top two floors with sea views.

CHI adds second Ramada Hotel to Abu Dhabi
Malta based CHI Hotels & Resorts to operate its first Ramada Hotel in the Mafraq region. The new hotel is being developed on a 31.000sqm site with a 300-meter beachfront. Syria
  More towers for Damascus
One of country’s biggest building projects Syria Towers will be carried out by Syria Holdings. The $300 million complex will house a five-star hotel, offices, apartments, a shopping centre, restaurants and cinemas.


Hotel being built next to the Old City
The 300-room Holiday Inn will be the first international chain to be built so close to the city center, within walking distance of the Citadel and Souq Al-Hamidiyeh. It will feature an all night restaurant, a bar and nightclub, shops and a business center.

Ummayad Square development
A quarter of a billion dollar tourism and leisure center is being on Ummayad Square, at the center of which will be Syria’s first InterContinental Hotel. There will also be a shopping center, cinemas, offices plus a health club and spa. The Kuwait’s Kharafi Group is building the development known as Kiwan project.

Wahoud Group developing resort & hotel sites
Wahoud Group is developing a number of projects in co-operation with Kempinski Hotels, Amer Group (Porto Brand) and Concord Hotels & Resorts. Grand Hyatt Doha on schedule
The opening of Grand Hyatt Doha in 2008 marked Qatar’s entry into the world of five-star Hyatt hotels. Now two hotels are set to follow and will be opening at the Qatar airport. One hotel will include 100 rooms within the terminal itself for transit passengers. The second hotel will see an additional 100 rooms for the airport.

St. Regis brand makes debut in the Middle East
Starwood Hotels & Resorts in agreement with Alfardan Group will manage the 346-room St. Regis hotel in Doha comprised of two reflecting towers and 18 bungalows. Europtima the French consulting firm will re-launch its ski-resort project. Covering 15 million m2, the 60 million dollar project will include hotels and chalets to accommodate 800 beds.


286 villas for Bhamdoun
A $280 million development project on a one million m2 land plot in Bhamdoun has been announced by Gulf Glory Holding Co., a Kuwaiti company and will take five years to be completed. The three-phase project entails developing 286 villas and a five-star hotel.

The Swissôtel Makkah is scheduled to open in January 2011 and will boast 1,571 guest rooms, including 88 suites, spread over 53 floors. Centrally located it will have four restaurants serving Arabic and European cuisine, an executive lounge, two meeting rooms and a business center.

Fairmont to open in Makkah
Makkah Clock Royal Tower, a Fairmont hotel, will be the focal point of the iconic Abraj Al Bait Complex, which includes seven towers and is adjacent to the Masjid al Haram. The 858-room hotel will offer Fairmont Gold, numerous dining outlets and conference facilities. The 76-storey hotel tower, at 577 meters high, will be among the world’s tallest and will feature a 40-meter clock which will announce daily call to prayers. Scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2010 it will boast a Lunar Observation Center and an Islamic Museum.

Dusit Thani Lakeview Cairo will be the first Dusit International hotel to reach Egypt. The hotel is currently operating with partial facilities. First Conrad Hotel in Bahrain
