Lebanon to end 2017 with over 1.9 million tourists

“We are expecting to end 2017 with over 1.9 million tourists, excluding expatriates, Syrians, and Palestinians,” said Minister of Tourism in Lebanon, Avedis Guidanian, revealing that this is the second best achieved tourism result the country has witnessed since the fifties.

Lebanon had scored over two million tourists in 2010, but the number has been degrading and in continuous ups and down until it started steadily picking up by end of 2015. Political and security stability have been at the core of this adequate environment to drive tourists back, in addition to the various campaigns led by the Ministry of Tourism, and supported by the private sector stakeholders.

Guidanian told HN that they were expecting even a higher number of arrivals, if the turmoil did not happen last October, but hopefully, “we were able to overcome it.” He continued: “Hotels across the country are at over 60 percent occupancy rate which is a very good number, and rates rise to 90 and 95 percent in Beirut.” He added: “Our expectations are very high for 2018.”
