Integrated resorts to shape the tourism industry

The growth of integrated resorts is transforming global hospitality, combining luxury, culture, entertainment and innovation effectively.

The upcoming Wynn Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah will open in 2027, signaling transformative tourism development regionally. Meanwhile, Cinnamon Life’s City of Dreams development in Sri Lanka demonstrates how immersive and culturally enriched resorts are reshaping Asia Pacific tourism.

Economic impact of integrated resorts

Industry analysts forecast that integrated resorts could generate annual gross gaming revenues of 3 to 5 billion USD in the UAE alone. Moreover, Ras Al Khaimah aiming to attract 3.5 million overnight visitors by 2030. These projects are expected to create thousands of jobs, stimulate investment and strengthen the region’s global tourism competitiveness.

Key feeder markets, including India, China, the GCC, and Europe, are driving demand, with travelers seeking personalized, multifaceted experiences beyond traditional hotel stays.

Culture and storytelling at the core

Experts emphasize that the success of integrated resorts hinges on their ability to create a sense of place. Therefore, true success relies on weaving the fabric, texture and soulfulness of the surrounding community into experiences. This philosophy is reshaping hospitality by positioning gaming as a supporting element, rather than making it the primary attraction. Moreover, modern resorts are actively incorporating local art, music, gastronomy, wellness and storytelling to create culturally immersive, authentic guest experiences. As a result, these integrated resorts appeal to broader audiences, attracting travelers seeking unique cultural engagement and personalized luxury hospitality worldwide.

Danielle Curtis, exhibition director ME at ATM, said: “It’s not just about gaming but about crafting a sense of place, telling compelling stories and building meaningful cultural connections. Destinations in the MENA region and beyond are demonstrating how these developments can become national assets.”

Regulation and responsible growth

In the UAE, the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority, established in 2023, ensures responsible gaming practices while fostering sustainable, regulated growth. Similarly, government collaboration and active community engagement have proven essential for Sri Lanka’s City of Dreams, driving its continued operational success. Although gaming ranks lower for many travelers, research highlights its significant revenue contribution, particularly among affluent, experience driven international visitors. Furthermore, studies reveal a consistent thirty percent increase in visitor spending at resorts offering premium gaming within broader luxury-focused hospitality packages.

Ultimately, with advanced technology, personalized service, cultural integration and responsible governance, integrated resorts will redefine tourism, establishing regional leadership globally.
