Middle East Airlines has marked 80 years since its first flight, reaffirming its role as Lebanon’s national carrier and a central player in the country’s aviation and hospitality sectors.

Vatican praises MEA Catering

During the Pope’s recent visit to Lebanon, the Vatican praised the inflight food and beverage service provided to the papal delegation on its return flight from Beirut to Rome. The catering was delivered by the Lebanese Beirut Airport Catering Company, part of the Middle East Airlines Group, under the leadership of Hussein Toufeily, Executive Director, and was noted for enhancing passenger comfort beyond standard protocol.

80 years of MEA

Over eight decades, MEA has played a key role in maintaining Lebanon’s international connectivity while upholding service standards across aviation and hospitality.

MEA expansion plans

At anniversary celebrations at Rafic Hariri International Airport, Chairman Mohammad El Hout outlined initiatives aimed at strengthening Beirut’s aviation footprint, including plans to restore the city’s role as a regional maintenance hub.

Fly Beirut launch

MEA also announced the launch of Fly Beirut, a new low cost subsidiary designed to offer fares around 30 percent lower than mainline services across selected European and Middle Eastern routes.
