Saudi Arabia’s luxury hospitality evolution with Fredrik Blomqvist

Fredrik Blomqvist, General Manager, Raffles Jeddah (2)

Fredrik Blomqvist, general manager of Raffles Jeddah, discusses the city’s evolving luxury hospitality scene, emerging guest trends and how Raffles will blend legendary service with Jeddah’s unique character to create unforgettable, meaningful experiences.

How would you describe the current landscape of luxury hotels in Jeddah, and what makes the city unique for hospitality?

Jeddah is experiencing a remarkable transformation as it increasingly positions itself as a gateway for both business and leisure travelers. Moreover, for decades, the city has served as a hub for culture and commerce, but Vision 2030 has accelerated development. Importantly, what makes Jeddah unique is its combination of history, tradition and modern ambition, where innovation and heritage converge beautifully. Consequently, this creates an inspiring canvas for luxury hotels to deliver world-class service while reflecting the destination’s authenticity and vibrancy meaningfully.

What exciting trends are emerging on Jeddah’s luxury hotel scene and how are guest expectations evolving?

One of the most exciting shifts is that luxury now goes beyond conventional expectations, focusing on personalization, purpose and meaningful connection. Furthermore, in Jeddah, guests increasingly seek experiences that weave Saudi traditions with global sophistication through wellness, dining or curated cultural encounters. Similarly, today’s travelers care deeply about sustainability and authenticity, desiring experiences that carry real meaning, impact and relevance to their journeys. At the same time, technology and seamless service remain crucial, with guests valuing efficiency, combined with warmth, throughout their entire luxury hospitality experience.

How do you envision the future of luxury hospitality in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Arabia is set to redefine luxury hospitality globally, with developments that transform experiences across Jeddah, the Red Sea and Amaala. Moreover, Diriyah and other emerging destinations are shaping experiences that celebrate the kingdom’s rich heritage while simultaneously embracing modern innovation with care. I see the future focusing less on excess and more on transformation, creating meaningful journeys that leave lasting impressions on guests. Consequently, ultra-luxury will increasingly go hand in hand with authenticity, sustainability and inclusivity, redefining the principles of modern high-end hospitality experiences. Therefore, in the coming years, Saudi Arabia will become a global benchmark in luxury hospitality that truly inspires visitors worldwide.

What is your vision for Raffles Jeddah, and how do you plan to make it a standout destination in the city?

Raffles Jeddah is poised to establish itself as a landmark of refined luxury in the city for travelers and locals. Furthermore, our vision is to deliver an experience that blends Raffles’ legendary service with the city’s unique character and culture. From meticulously designed suites with sweeping Red Sea views to distinctive dining venues and a world-class spa, every element inspires delight. Importantly, what will truly set us apart is the experience we create, which feels personal, genuine and deeply heartfelt. By daring to be different and aligning with Vision 2030’s aspirations, Raffles Jeddah will enhance the luxury reputation of the city and kingdom globally.
