Imad Saade expands Shogun to Ghana and Egypt

Talented Imad Saade, an expert in Japanese cuisine and chef-owner of The Shogun Lounge & Shogun To Go, shares how he expanded his father Aref’s restaurant internationally to Ghana and Egypt.

What motivated the new opening of Shogun in Egypt?

The new opening in Egypt began as part of our global expansion strategy following the Ghana launch during the crisis. Additionally, recognizing the resilience of the local dining scene and interest in international cuisines, we aimed to introduce Japanese experiences. Moreover, our commitment to quality, supported by our supply chain directly from Japan, allows us to maintain standards expected consistently.

Why did you choose Egypt and Ghana as expansion markets for Shogun?

We chose Egypt and Ghana for their vibrant culinary landscapes and increasing interest in diverse dining options across evolving markets. Additionally, both countries have seen rising tourism and a growing middle class that increasingly appreciates high quality food experiences today. Moreover, our success in Ghana demonstrated the potential for Japanese cuisine and Egypt offers strategic opportunity through culture and population.

How do you expect Egyptian diners to respond to the Shogun concept?

We anticipate a positive response in Egypt, as we previously experienced in Ghana during our successful market introduction. Additionally, local interest in sushi is growing, driven by younger demographics eager to explore new international flavors across urban markets. Moreover, our approach to integrating local tastes with authentic Japanese recipes will enhance our appeal within Egypt’s evolving dining landscape. Furthermore, we have observed a flourishing food scene in major cities that embraces culinary diversity and welcomes innovative global influences.

What upcoming projects or plans can you share?

We are excited about our plans, which include a new Beirut project and additional branches across cities in neighboring regions. Additionally, we are exploring collaborations with local chefs to create unique fusion dishes that celebrate both Japanese and local flavors.
