Saudi Arabia’s hospitality with Muhieddine Zok, GM of Fairmont Hotel Riyadh

With over two decades of luxury hospitality, Muhieddine Zok, general manager of Fairmont Hotel Riyadh, is leaving his mark on the city’s luxury landscape. In this interview he shares how he plans to turn the hotel into a symbol of innovation and world-class hospitality.

You’ve spent over a decade shaping Saudi Arabia’s hospitality landscape. How will you establish Fairmont Hotel Riyadh as the city’s premier luxury address?

Fairmont Hotel Riyadh stands proudly at the heart of the kingdom’s remarkable transformation, symbolizing progress, innovation and national pride. Moreover, as Riyadh continues evolving into a global hub under Vision 2030, the hotel remains dedicated to leading the dynamic MICE segment. Furthermore, with our exceptional facilities, cutting-edge technology and unparalleled service, we aim to deliver memorable experiences that redefine hospitality standards. Moreover, our distinguished culinary destinations, House of Grill and Che Figata!, highlight our dedication to excellence and creative dining experiences.

House of Grill, developed in collaboration with Michelin-starred chef Nicolas Isnard, brings authentic craftsmanship and modern flair to Riyadh’s dining scene. Meanwhile, Che Figata! now shines under the leadership of Italian chef Maria Carmela Raimondo, who hails from northern Italy near Venice. From executive summits to elevated gastronomy, every touchpoint within Fairmont Hotel Riyadh reflects Saudi Arabia’s ambition and deep cultural pride. Furthermore, we aspire to become Riyadh’s preferred destination for major events, meaningful gatherings and world-class hospitality experiences. Ultimately, we embody both Fairmont’s prestigious legacy and the bright future of Saudi Arabia’s ever-evolving luxury and hospitality landscape.

You’ve trained 80 Saudi nationals. What’s your approach to developing the next generation of hospitality leaders?

Developing Saudi talent is ultimately about training, trust, mentorship and opportunity, all working together to unlock genuine human potential. In addition, I consistently identify high-potential individuals early, give them meaningful responsibilities and remain deeply involved in their professional growth. Moreover, the Saudi Tourism Leadership Initiative has clearly demonstrated how consistent investment and guidance help shape confident and capable leaders. Watching young Saudis, especially women, evolve into skilled, independent professionals has been both inspiring and profoundly rewarding on many levels. Therefore, true leadership, is about leaving a lasting legacy while empowering people with pride, purpose and the confidence to lead. When individuals feel genuinely supported and valued, they ultimately rise beyond expectations, driving transformation and inspiring excellence across every opportunity presented.

From Fairmont Ramla to Fairmont Hotel Riyadh, what’s been your biggest challenge and most exciting opportunity?

At Fairmont Ramla, the main challenge involved introducing Saudi Arabia’s first luxury serviced residences while setting new standards for excellence. This pioneering project demanded precision, creativity and commitment. As for the Fairmont Hotel Riyadh, the focus now centers on embracing the dynamic nature of a flagship city property with purpose. Moreover, the greatest opportunity across both properties has been leading diverse, passionate teams while expanding our impact in MICE, dining and wellness. Together, we are creating destinations of choice that celebrate human connection, refined craftsmanship and the richness of Saudi culture. The true thrill lies in shaping a lasting legacy that blends Fairmont’s timeless heritage with Saudi Arabia’s modern, forward-looking spirit.

What key trend is shaping the hospitality industry in Saudi Arabia today?

The dominant trend shaping Saudi Arabia’s hospitality sector today is ambition, fueled by Vision 2030 and nationwide transformation goals. This powerful momentum is redefining global standards as the kingdom continues to position itself as a world-class tourism and hospitality leader. Moreover, Saudi Arabia is not merely expanding its offerings; it is elevating every dimension of the modern and traditional guest experience.

There is also a clear and growing demand for innovation, authenticity and meaningful cultural relevance within every hospitality encounter. At Fairmont Hotel Riyadh, we fully embrace this evolution by delivering world-class service deeply rooted in genuine Saudi warmth. Furthermore, our role extends beyond hospitality excellence to actively supporting the kingdom’s transformation. Moreover, we proudly host landmark events and nurture exceptional local talent. Ultimately, our purpose is to embody this spirit of progress while inspiring new standards that define the future of Saudi hospitality.
