Lulu & The Beanstalk, a new homegrown concept, opens in DIFC

Lulu & The Beanstalk has opened its doors at ICD Brookfield Place, Dubai.

Wafa Tajdin and Amirah Tajdin, two filmmakers with a deep love for storytelling, created the cozy concept, which provides guests with place to enjoy high-quality coffee, craft cocktails, comfort food and sharing platters alongside a beautiful book shop. As well as retail books, the floor-to-ceiling bookcase features over 1,000 rare books that customers can browse through, with some in the collection dating back to 1857.

Named after Mama Lulu, an exceptional woman from the island of Lamu, Kenya, who could weave a tale taller than a beanstalk and would host friends and strangers in her humble home, Lulu & The Beanstalk encourages guests to absorb its unique atmosphere. Local and international DJs often perform there from Thursday right through to the weekend.

Elevated comfort food anchors the menu, while the bar offering is niche, boasting boutique blends, small-batch organic grapes and artisanal hops, as well as signature cocktails that are twists on the classics.

Designed by Stockholm-based architect and interior designer Jenny Askenfors at BOFINK, the space is whimsical explosion of color. Some of the most iconic pieces in the space include the Verner Panton Cloverleaf, a dreamy de Sede DS 600, a recycled Meltingpot by Amsterdam design studio Kooij and a handcrafted chandelier from South African artist Adam Hoets.

She studied Business Management and earned a Masters degree from Saint Joseph University (USJ), her thesis was published in the Proche-Orient, Études en Management book. She then pursued a career in the hospitality industry but didn’t give up writing, that is why she launched the Four Points by Sheraton Le Verdun Newsletter. Her love for the industry and journalism led her to Hospitality Services - the organizers of the HORECA trade show in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Jordan, as well as Salon Du Chocolat, Beirut Cooking Festival, Whisky Live and other regional shows.
