Jazan coffee production surges as Saudi Arabia elevates global ambitions

Saudi coffee from Jazan is gaining global recognition as production rises, while heritage cultivation evolves through sustained national support initiatives.

A heritage rooted in identity

Coffee cultivation in the Jazan Region remains a rooted heritage passed through generations, shaping strong cultural and social identity. Additionally, years have witnessed remarkable development, supported by national initiatives that enhance productivity, quality and international visibility of Saudi coffee. These efforts, championed by the Jazan Region Development Strategic Office, alongside national partners, are working to strengthen agricultural resilience and output. Furthermore, the Mountainous Areas Development and Reconstruction Authority in Jazan plays a role in addressing challenges and improving farmer capabilities. Moreover, the Ministry of Environment Water and Agriculture supports farmers through training programs, smart irrigation systems, and quality laboratories. In addition, partnerships with Saudi Aramco and the Saudi Coffee Company have elevated coffee positioning and expanded opportunities across specialty markets internationally.

Production milestones and regional advantage

Constraints including water scarcity and difficult transportation routes across mountainous areas limited production and reduced interest among younger generations. Consequently, interventions have revitalized the sector, encouraging farmers to adopt techniques while preserving traditional practices associated with Saudi coffee cultivation. Governorates of Al Dayer, Fayfa, Al Ardah, and Al Raith offer ideal climatic conditions, producing some of the finest Saudi coffee. Notably, recent statistics indicate annual production exceeds 1000 tons, generated from around 2000 farms hosting more than 400000 coffee trees. Over 500 model farms demonstrate improved practices and serve as benchmarks for quality, efficiency, and sustainability across the region. Additionally, rural agricultural development programs continue supporting communities, while enhancing economic returns and ensuring long term viability of coffee farming.

Global spotlight and cultural celebration

The Saudi Coffee Festival acts as a cultural celebration and economic platform, showcasing achievements and reinforcing Jazan position on the coffee map. Overall, celebrations tied to International Coffee Day highlight Jazan as the home of Saudi coffee, strengthening tourism appeal and future growth opportunities.
