Belgian adventurer and seasoned hotelier Odile De Groot is making a mark as GM of Park Inn by Radisson Hotel & Apartments Mahboula, Kuwait. Here, she tells us about her work, the importance of women empowerment and what she hopes to accomplish.

What has been your greatest professional achievement to date?

Winning Young Leader of the Year for the Radisson Hotel Group in 2013 was a major milestone. However, my favorite achievements are discovering years later the growth and development of former employees.

What are the challenges you are facing and how are you helping other women in their career development?

Right now, there are the usual pre-opening challenges and issues. But, if the question relates to equality challenges, I must admit that I’ve never really felt it. Notably, I’ve had some women and men support me, including my current hotel owners. Furthermore, people will always show support if they can see your work ethic, transparency and team spirit.

Do you believe that the hospitality industry offers equal opportunities?

Irrespective of our occupations, our primary responsibility is to offer guidance, share insights and provide advice based on experience, in my belief. Moreover, relationships thrive on sharing information, resources and opportunities. Furthermore, it is crucial to celebrate achievements for professional growth and development.

Support in managing work-life balance, particularly during life transitions and post-Covid, is essential for everyone, regardless of gender.

Furthermore, creating a supportive environment is crucial for fostering growth. Additionally, discussions should encompass gender, nationality and age discrimination, among others. Operating on a global scale, the hospitality industry exposes employees to diverse cultures and perspectives, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and diverse workforce.

What are your plans for Park Inn by Radisson Hotel & Apartments Kuwait?

A well-trained and motivated team is crucial to achieving guest satisfaction. Naturally, our goal is to attain profitability within a reasonable timeframe, fostering a positive impact on the Park Inn brand’s overall reputation. Furthermore, the happiness of guests not only ensures their satisfaction but also generates positive media and word-of-mouth, contributing significantly to brand image. Moreover, a satisfied clientele establishes a robust initial customer base, forming a solid foundation for the success of the brand.

Health and safety are top priorities given their direct impact on guest and employee well-being. Consequently, the success of a hotel hinges on consistent monitoring, adaptation to feedback and a dedication to continuous improvement.
