Valrhona campaign highlights resilience and unity across Middle East hospitality community

Valrhona’s “Celebrating Our Community” spotlights Middle East chefs, revealing how resilience, teamwork and gratitude are shaping hospitality today.

A campaign rooted in real human stories

Valrhona has unveiled “Celebrating Our Community,” a regional campaign that unites Middle East chefs to share reflections on gratitude, resilience and connection. Yet, as uncertainty continues shaping hospitality, the initiative shifts focus beyond aesthetics and performance toward people driving the craft forward. Through portraits and testimonials shared on Instagram, the campaign creates space where chefs pause and express what truly matters daily.

Shifting focus from performance to people

While hospitality often reflects precision, creativity and high standards, this campaign deliberately redirects attention toward deeper human values and connections. Furthermore, it shows kitchens remain active not only as production spaces but also as environments of solidarity and emotional support. By asking a simple question about gratitude, Valrhona captures a narrative that resonates across borders and connects professionals meaningfully today. Consequently, the result becomes a collective voice reflecting authenticity, vulnerability and shared purpose among professionals navigating ongoing challenges together.

Perspective in times of uncertainty

For many chefs, the campaign creates a meaningful moment for reflection. It allows them to reconsider priorities and redefine what truly matters. Kelvin Cheung, partner and executive chef at Jun’s Dubai, highlights how difficult moments can bring clarity and renewed perspective. He explains, “These moments have a way of putting everything into perspective. We’re grateful for our health and safety, for our family and for the incredible community and industry that continue to support us. Through it all, our team’s dedication and resilience have carried us forward.” Indeed, his words echo a broader sentiment where perspective becomes a powerful tool for navigating uncertainty across the hospitality industry today.

The team as the foundation of success

A recurring theme throughout the campaign highlights the importance of teams, reinforcing how collaboration shapes success across every kitchen environment. Behind every successful kitchen stands a group whose collective effort defines experiences and ultimately strengthens the identity of each concept. Alexandre Thabard, executive pastry chef at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental Abu Dhabi, emphasizes this idea clearly. He states, “This year, I’m grateful for my TEAM committed, creative and united. They are a true source of energy and inspiration, because in the end, everything only truly makes sense together.” Similarly, Darren Stewart, executive pastry chef at Zuma Middle East, adds, “To my amazing pastry chefs, thank you, genuinely. The long hours, the attention to detail and the pride you put into your work is what makes us who we are. We would be nothing without you.” Thus, these reflections position gratitude as a leadership approach that values collaboration and collective strength above individual recognition in kitchens.

Family remains at the heart of it all

Beyond professional environments, the campaign consistently highlights family as a central pillar that supports chefs through uncertainty and demanding working conditions. In moments of instability, chefs naturally return to what grounds them most, reinforcing emotional stability and clarity in their personal lives. Hadrien Villedieu, executive chef and co-owner of Chez Wam Dubai, shares, “Grateful for my family to be safe and healthy. That’s truly what matters to me the most but also for the great community and clients’ support that has been unconditional.” Fodil Baghal, executive pastry chef at Mandarin Oriental Dubai, echoes this sentiment, saying, “This year I’m honestly just grateful for my family, their health and being able to keep doing what I love every day.” As a result, these voices underline how personal stability influences professional resilience and long-term sustainability within the hospitality industry.

Balancing personal and professional worlds

For some chefs, the relationship between work and family becomes deeply intertwined, highlighting how both aspects influence each other significantly. Julien Jacob, executive pastry chef at Gattopardo-Bar des Prés Dubai, reflects this balance. He states, “I’m truly thankful for the incredible team around me. Their support made it possible for me to take the time to fly home. Being able to see my whole family together meant everything.” These perspectives highlight how supportive teams enable individuals to maintain meaningful personal connections beyond the kitchen environment and routines.

Growth shaped by resilience

The campaign openly acknowledges challenges faced by the industry while framing growth as a direct result of perseverance and continuous adaptation. Rather than avoiding difficulties, chefs highlight how resilience strengthens both individual development and collective progress within their teams and organizations. Ishan Udayanga, group executive pastry chef at Fundamental Hospitality, notes, “Not just proud of what I created this year, but of how much I have grown behind every dessert and project I did with my super resilient team.” Meanwhile, Brice Konan Ferrand, executive pastry chef at L’École Valrhona Dubai, expands the perspective. He states, “I am grateful for L’École Valrhona Dubai to keep shining during these times and for all our community with the support we give to each other.” These reflections reinforce how collective strength and adaptability continue driving progress despite ongoing challenges across the hospitality sector today.

A sense of belonging in the region

Many chefs highlight the Middle East as a place where opportunity, creativity and belonging come together to shape meaningful culinary careers. Carmen Rueda Hernandez, executive pastry chef at BRIX and The Lab Holding, explains, “I’m truly grateful to be in a country where I’ve found not only a place to express myself through my food, but also friendships that have become family.” Reif Othman, founder of Hotaru Holdings, adds, “I’m very grateful that I wake up every day and welcome my new day fully energized by seeing my family and my staff at work.” These perspectives reflect a region where ambition and human connection coexist, creating a distinctive and supportive environment for culinary professionals.

Hospitality as connection and comfort

The campaign also explores hospitality beyond service, positioning it as a source of emotional connection, comfort and meaningful human interaction. Bernard Charles, senior director Gourmet and Confectionary at Bateel, offers a broader reflection, saying, “In challenging times, chocolate becomes more than indulgence it becomes comfort, connection and a quiet reminder that sweetness still exists.” Abel Vieilleville, executive chef at EKFC, adds, “Life becomes richer when you choose to see what you have rather than what you lack you are part of the puzzle, and every piece matters.” Thus, these perspectives position hospitality as an emotional experience that extends far beyond food, service and technical execution alone today.

A collective voice that defines the industry

Through “Celebrating Our Community,” Valrhona presents more than a campaign, capturing an industry driven by people, purpose and shared values. It brings together diverse voices that collectively highlight what truly sustains hospitality professionals across the Middle East during challenging and evolving times. The final reflection from Thomas Moulin, executive pastry chef at Jumeirah Mina Al Naseem, summarizes this spirit. He states: “Grateful to live by my passion and be surrounded by wonderful people.” In conclusion, the campaign reminds audiences that beyond excellence, humanity continues defining and sustaining the hospitality industry across the region today.
