60 seconds with Mary Choueiry, director of PR and MC at InterContinental Phoenicia Beirut

Mary Choueiry, director of PR and marketing communications at InterContinental Phoenicia Beirut, lifts the lid on what’s new at the iconic hotel and how it is enhancing its luxury offering.

Since reopening in October 2022, what have been the most notable changes at the hotel?
We were overwhelmed with emotions as the hotel was able to stand on its feet, once again, like the mythical phoenix. It has been an incredible and inspirational success story that motivates us to give our all in the name of hospitality. After reopening the Phoenician Tower in October 2022, we witnessed such a positive festive season that we decided to finalize the renovation of the Roman Tower in June, just in time for the busy summer season. In addition, the Phoenicia Residence is in full operation, welcoming long stayers.

What can guests look forward to?
Guests can look forward to experiencing luxurious accommodation that caters to their every need. All of our guests receive a truly personalized service that is filled with unforgettable moments, breathtaking views, outstanding dining and superb wellness and recreation at our spa and gym. Guests also know that the hotel is unrivalled when it comes to special events, such as weddings. Most of all, those who stay with us can expect to experience true hospitality in the warmest sense.

How are you meeting the needs of the modern-day traveler?
As a hotel, we strive to meet the new traveler’s expectations by continuously adapting and enhancing our services. We do this by providing more personalized experiences, as well as investing in cutting-edge technology to streamline the booking process, improve communication, and enhance the overall guest experience. From the moment a guest arrives, we focus on delivering a seamless service. This includes elements such as modern security measures for peace of mind and a 24-hour concierge service. We also regularly seek feedback from guests to enhance our offering and improve our services. We are committed to engaging with our audiences via online platforms to keep them updated about our offerings and events.

The InterContinental Phoenicia is highly regarded for its first-class service. How are you coping with the staff shortage in the country?
There are obvious challenges that exist for all employers in Lebanon due to the emigration of fresh talent and experienced staff, but we are happy to report that we have a loyal team led by department heads who have been with us for many years and we are also growing our team in line with demand through onboarding and training new hires, while also providing ongoing training for our existing staff. We look forward to a future of growth, with more recruitment planned.

What can you tell us about the hotel’s latest culinary offerings?
We have been elevating the Cascade Lounge into a dynamic hub, rich in sensory stimulation with signature dishes and cocktails, a resident pianist and a multi-cuisine menu, as well as special promotions planned. Améthyste Lounge is the jewel of the hotel set around our outdoor pool and with great sea views, where the seasonal menu has been designed with a refreshing take for the summer. Banquets and meeting breaks are evolving into a more highly social and visual environment, with great interaction among our attendees and chefs. We are working on upgrading our live food stations, with a focus on à la minute preparation, inventive menus, trending flavors and small-plated food to facilitate mingling.

Do you have any new projects in the pipeline?
We have plans for the rebranding of Améthyste Lounge, which will involve uplifting its identity with a fresh setup and an exciting new menu. We are also excited to announce plans for a fresh culinary journey at the heart of Phoenicia Beirut, which will be our first time collaborating with an external operator. This concept will be launched by Noura S.A.L. this summer as an all-day dining experience.
