Students at Lebanon’s La Sagesse University create the world’s first virtual restaurant

In a yearly ceremony to mark their graduation year, BS6 students of La Sagesse University’s faculty of tourism and hotel management hosted their annual theme night.

As part of their curriculum, senior students are required to design and execute a capstone project under the guidance of their instructors, where they create and implement a themed concept. This includes planning and organizing the menu, purchasing the products, decorating the ballroom, planning the entertainment, the lighting and the seating, in addition to all other functions related to a large event inside the faculty’s grand ballroom.

Despite the exceptional challenges that students have faced this year, including the devastating Beirut Port explosion which destroyed the faculty in Achrafieh, they were able to come up with an innovative concept: the world’s first virtual restaurant.

Guests enjoyed the evening from the comfort of their homes. The theme night, which included food, beverages and entertainment, was broadcast live from the university, and guests were able to view it remotely and in real time. Viewers were served the same menu as the ballroom as well as being provided with the same table design, cutlery, chinaware, linen and floral decorations. The service activities in guests’ homes were executed by the students.
