A passion for marketing with Mouna Ouni, cluster director of marketing and communications of Swissotel Al Murooj and Movenpick Grand Al Bustan

With more than 20 years of experience in PR and marketing, Mouna Ouni has been credited with helping hotels achieve success. Here, she discusses what drives her passion and how to make it in the business.

How did your career in marketing begin?
I was a TV presenter at the beginning and shifted to PR when I relocated to Dubai in 2002. Later on, I was introduced to the world of hospitality For almost two decades, I have headed marketing teams in both international chains, such as Sheraton, Millennium and ACCOR, and local chains, like RODA and TIME Hotels.

How does Accor, specifically Swissôtel Al Muroo, approach marketing and communications?
In general, all hotel chains follow a specific set of brand guidelines to ensure that everything is in line with the core identity of the brand.
Swissotel focuses on vitality, sustainability and craftsmanship. We work our way around these values and add our touch with outside-the-box thinking.

What are the best practices when it comes to successfully promoting hotels?
There are actually none. Marketing provides an endless sea of possibilities; it is very unpredictable and constantly changing.
If I had to share one tip, however, it would be that you always have to be on the go to allow the creative juices to flow in your department. Keeping up with trends while respecting the brand’s core values is very important.
